This is the derby of all derbies. It doesn’t get any better than Inter v AC Milan. This derby has brought us world class players v eachother. We are alking about Schevchenko, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, Milito, Julio Cesar just to name a few on Inter’s side. Milan, Kaka, Robaldinho, Pirlo, Maldini, Inzaghi, Seedorf, Gattuso i mean, these guys are legends but when they went up against eachother everything was put aisde. It was about playing for the shirt and leaving everything on the field. It was the night of nights in Milan. The city put to a stop, bragging rights and pride were up for grabs and what can we say, it’s a different story this time.
Inter Milan, fast foward the clock 10-15 years to 2015, how do you think past players, managers most importantly their fans feel about their recent 2/3 seasons? Anger, frustration and embarrassment pretty much sum it up. Last season finishing 8th behind Genoa and Sampdoria, no european football for the past 2 years! This is Inter we are talking about, European royalty! Thohir, the clubs director, reacted to this chaos by hiring ex Inter coach Roberto Mancini who loudly promised last season, “Inter will qualify for European Football” it didn’t happen. It was hard to watch last season from the fans’ point of view, losing games constantly to lower table teams + top, not giving strong performances, which then led to fans not turning up to games and Inter playing in almost empty stadiums. It hurts to have lived through this.
Inter Milan have reacted and with strong willingness to put last season behind them by a very aggressive transfer market this summer. Mancini reigning in 8 new signings!
Miranda, Murillo, Telles, Brozovic, Jovetic, Perisic, Kongdogbia, Lajlic. Now, these signings have already been 2 weeks into the season and lets face it we have seen nothing from them but bad performances (minus Jovetic, at least he was on the scoresheet). Perisic, a Croation wonderkid has not yet played in the Seria A and if his performances with Wolfsburg are to go by, we cannot wait to see him in action.
Possible line up:
Santon Miranda Ranocchia Telles
Ljalic Jovetic Perisic
On paper this could be a very strong XI that can trouble and maybe stir something if we talk Scudetto. A poll was up on Gazzetta Dello Sport, asking if Inter Milan can challenge for lo Scudetto and after 5000 votes, 66% believe so. Who are we to belive they can’t, if the first 2 weeks are to go by, how can we rule them out?
Mancini has been given everything this summer window to make this team a winning team and fight for European football. This XI of his are filled with debutantes and lets face it, if it is now they want to step up in the biggest stage of world football wearing the Neroazzurro, then forza ragazzi and give it everything you’ve got.
That shirt is bigger than anything. If the players look back and see who wore that famous strip, that should be more than enough to motivate them. The fans needed new blood on the field, have to say, they got more than they bargained for but, they need passion alla Diego Milito, and i see that in young boy Icardi. He is the future of that shirt. They need wins, goals, make their stadium a fortress as it was years before. Jovetic, Perisic, KDB, Miranda, Murillo, Telles all bring new dimensions to Inter’s game and they have been put together very fast and as you can tell watching their previous games, there hasn’t been enough time to gel, but patience is key, and this ocassion will bring out the best in this new Inter Milan.
AC Milan. It is a very similar story for Milan. Last season they finished 10th, it almost didn’t look right and boy was it been filled with drama. As Milan tried to quickly clean up the mess by hiring former Milan legend Clarence Seedorf, i mean, it never works out when past legends of the team start coaching them. Lets face it was never destined to success. After Seedorf could barely save them they turned again to ex player Filippo Inzaghi and….with false hope, failed again, no scudetto, no tim cup, coppa italia, or decent performances on the pitch, or European football. Ciao anche a te Pippo.
Sinisa Mihajlovic enters the frame from Sampdoria. Mihajlovic led Sampdoria to an excellent season that surprised us all. Finishing 6th and European qualification.
It is a completely different story as he entered Milan. As talks of Sinisa taking the Milan job whilst Pippo was still in charge caused controversey, after the 14/15 season ended and after all the gossip, Mihajlovic offically was unveiled as Milan’s new manager, ‘the saviour’.
Mihajlovic is the manager to turn this Milan side around. Tough, disiciplined and no nonsense coach to pull the reigns and get this Milan side in the top 4 and most importanly European football.
Gallani and Mihajlovic have had a very successful transfer window, signing 8 players. Luiz Adriano, Carlos Bacca, Ely, Romagnoli, Kucka, Bertolacci, Jose Mauri, *Balotelli on loan*. Have to say Milan fans are satifisfied with the investments. Up front they have the 2 most prolific strikers in Adriano and Bacca. Young italian kid, Bertolacci in midfield, Kucka very good player and the infamous Balotelli. Word is hey may not play, “Balotelli is 3kg overweight and is on a diet. When he is ready to play he will play” -Mihajlovic.
Milan need to give so much in this 2 game. They need their fans on their side and Mihajlovic is the man to do this. I know this is 1 game but its on the biggest stage.
Abate Ely Romagnoli Antonelli
Bertolacci De jong Bonaventura
This derby is the derby of debutantes. 17 new players may or may not take the field in 8 days time and we are all excited. Mancini and Mihajlovic have the pressure mounted on their shoulders to reinvent these milan sides and put their teams back on the football map where they belong. Inter have started well but have not set the world alight and Milan are in the same boat.
In bocca al lupo ragazzi!
Score prediction: 2-2
